So, funny story for this picture! Around September or so I was sitting beside my mother on a train bound for Montreal, and I was sleeping while she worked on some documents beside me. At some point I half-woke from a sort of doze and I saw an interesting image on one of the documents she was looking at, which looked (through blurry half-open eyes and no glasses) like a silhouetted winged figure standing dramatically on a cliff edge, pulling some sort of sword or something out of the ground. I was really confused as to why this would be among the documents, until my eyes focused properly and I realized it was actually a map of the rivers and waterways around Manhattan
(with the water filled in dark blue and the land kept white).
The idea of the composition I'd mistaken it for seemed pretty neat though, so I sketched it loosely in my little notebook and then went back to sleep.
I scanned it in when I got home and then forgot about it entirely until a couple of weeks ago, when it turned up again as I was backing up some files. And now it's a painting 8DEdit
: Wasn't totally satisfied with some areas, so I poked it a little more.
