Atlas by Varethane Atlas by Varethane
Fiiiiiinally finished this here thing! (I kept not having time to work on it but DAMMIT TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY so I will finish it if I want to! )

Better get back to the other things I put off now |D

Teeko is from my webcomic Chirault; the moth she is riding is Attacus Atlas (or the atlas moth), known for being the largest moth in the world. :B This one may be a liiiiittle on the exaggeratedly large size for her species, but WHATEVER IT'S FANTASY. Maybe in the world of Chirault atlas moths are even more monstrously huge.

Yeah, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I love how Teeko is in sharp focus and everything else starts to fade away from her... it really gives the feeling that she's flying through the air.

hehehe! Awesome! May I ask what texture you used for the watercolour effect?

Wait but isn't Teeko tiny? Doesn't that mean the moths are the proper size, then?

Yeah the moth is pretty much its proper size (maybe about 1.05-1.25x normal size, technically, as someone on the Chirault website's comment box pointed out-- they get super big but maybe not quite THAT big, using a human hand as comparison)

As for the watercolour effect.... it was a grainy paper texture, scanned from a sheet that had been left for awhile until it started to grow mold. I use it on a lot of pictures. XD

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

And wait, isn't Teeko incredibly small? Is this changing soon or something, because this is the second one with her hooman-sized.

Hey, when did I ever say anything about her being normal-sized? XD She's riding a bug here!

Riding the largest moth in a world full of monsters. I'd expect that the largest moth in the world would be bigger than that.

I actually saw the biggest species of butterfly once. It was one of the most terrifying thing i've seen, about 40cm by 15. I thought it was fake when i saw it, then i jokingly went to poke it (i was 13) and it moved enough to terrify.

Hehe.... Yeah in the world of the comic there are undoubtedly moths even bigger than this one. XD I just really like Atlas moths and their patterning, so I wanted to draw one...

Part of me would really love to see one of these in person, though from looking at videos of them flapping their wings I'm afraid I'd be freaked out. XD So big</a>...

Sooo cool!
riding on a moth must be so a cool feeling. I wonder if the moth's "fur" is soft. :D
This also is so wonderfully drawn like always. So amazing. :)

They definately are :D I would love to see one up close. When I was a kid we used to have large moths that were as big as my hand and I used to have one that I called Alyssa, I dunno why, but I just loved the large moth. I can't remember what they are called but they have similar markings and colours to an Atlas moth, just not as big lol.I kinda miss the luna moths that showed up occasionally at my parents', those kind are sooo pretty.

I'd love to see one up close too, though I'm afraid it might freak me out a bit XD (sooooo biiiiig, I have never seen a bug that big in my life).

aaahhh luna moths, they are beautiful. :'> Some of the most beautiful bugs in the world are moths, I dunno why they got such a bad rap compared to butterflies...

Agreed! Tho I would find them very fascinating. The biggest butterfly I have seen up close is that cool blue one I can't remember what it is called tho: [link]
I also don't understand why they got a bad rep, never understood it, I mean moths are just butterflies that fly at night technically. It might be related to the fact there is one kind of moth that gets in your clothes and any fabric and they eat it to make places to lay eggs or something.

The morpho butterfly?

It could be that association, yeah.... and the way they're attracted to lights that makes them a nuisance sometimes (hurling themselves into windows and lightbulbs and so on)-- so most people see moths being all clumsy and awkward, while butterflies are rarely seen as being other than ethereal and graceful...

Oh hey, outta curiosity, are you going to animaritime this year?

Ah yes the morpho butterfly! They are really pretty :D
And I believe this is the type of moth I tried to keep as a pet when I was little lol [link]

And sadly no :( I have been so poor that I am worried I might not even get into Hal-Con yet again this year :( It would be cool to hang out again and draw :P

Amazing! But that must be way out of scale, cause it'd be gi-freaking-gantic o.o

But she should totally ride some tiny animal! like a Kitten! : 3 : You should make Teeko ride a tiny kitten.

Haha, follow the wikipedia link, the real moth species I based this on is indeed gi-freaking-gantic. XD

Maybe a kitten will be the next one :U
